Resort Information

In the 19th century, the area surrounding Val Marie was known as The Crossing. It was here, midway between Wood Mountain and Fort Walsh, that patrols of the North West Mounted Police crossed the Frenchman River. Today, The Crossing Resort is where visitors cross over from altered, farmed prairie to wide open, unfenced natural Prairie protected within Grasslands National Park. A few steps from your suite or tentsite in our campground will take you directly into the Park.

The Park is home to a variety of unique wildlife such as black tailed prairie dogs, badgers and several species of snakes. Birders delight in being able to see endangered species such as sage grouse, burrowing owls, sprague's pipits and various raptors including golden eagles and ferruginous hawks.

Take advantage of our 'Bed and Bale' service and ride directly into the park with your own horse, or visit www.lazyd.ca to rent horses.

The picnic shelter plus additional Gazebo tents can be rented for group functions and meals and picnics.
